Changing the color of ink lines

There may be occasions when you want to ink large areas of a character's trace lines. You may for example, need to recolor the trace lines of an entire character, or to recolor so much of the Trace layer that it would be quicker to recolor all the lines, then return a few lines to their original color.

To recolor large areas of the trace layer, use the Area Ink tools. There are two versions of this tool, one which inks inside the area you define, and one which inks outside the area.

Use the Area Ink Outside Box tool to drag out a rectangle around the areas you wish to remain unchanged:

Use the Area Ink Inside Box tool to drag out a rectangle around the areas you wish to recolor:

To change the color of the ink lines:

  1. Click on the ink color you wish to use in the Palette window.
  1. Choose one of the above Area Ink tools.
  1. Drag the mouse in the Painting window, to define a bounding box where you wish to change the ink lines.
When you release the mouse button, the ink lines selected by the bounding box are inked with the new ink color.

If you have made color changes to some of the inked trace lines, and you then need to recolor the changed lines without affecting unchanged lines, you can do so using Ink Line Toggle tool. See the description of this tool in Inking tools.
